nflammation
occurs when any tissue is injured or damaged.
This includes everything from an acute soft tissue
injury to a chronic condition that affects your
joints.
|
| |
While
inflammation is typically associated with injury
to muscles or ligaments, it can also be caused by
a viral or bacterial infection. Inflammation can
affect any organ or tissue throughout the body,
and long-term inflammation can eventually lead to
life-threatening diseases. |

The
Trouble With Anti-Inflammatory Drugs
|
 |
|
Many people suffering from common aches
or the pain of an injury reach for an over-the-counter
remedy. Those afflicted with chronic conditions
may be more likely to use a prescription
drug.
Certain drugs used for pain and inflammation
are known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory
drugs (commonly referred to as NSAIDs).
Over-the-counter versions include aspirin,
ibuprofen and naproxen. Current estimates
indicate that approximately 33 million Americans
regularly use prescription or over-the-counter
pain relievers. Yet, up to 75% of those
who use these drugs may not realize that
they can cause serious gastrointestinal
(GI) problems.
|
|
|
| |
Some
of the more common side effects seen with NSAIDs
include heartburn, indigestion or nausea. But with
extended use of these drugs, more serious complications—such
as GI bleeding or ulcerations—can occur.
Recently a newer class of prescription drugs known
as COX-2 inhibitors was introduced to the market.
These medications supposedly had fewer GI side effects
than other NSAIDs. However, after a few years of
use, these compounds are demonstrating not only
GI side effects, but also more serious problems
such as cardiovascular complications.

Enzymes...A
Safer Alternative
|
 |
|

|
An
alternative to these drugs is proteolytic
enzymes (proteases). Proteases are natural
compounds that come from either plants or
animals and can have an anti-inflammatory
effect on the body. Although not as well
known as NSAIDs, proteases have been used
very successfully for decades to treat a
wide variety of inflammatory conditions.
Proteases have been shown to reduce the
pain, swelling and redness that accompany
inflammatory conditions, often more effectively
than prescription or over-the-counter drugs.
|
|
| |
As
an added benefit, proteases have been shown to
help boost the body’s immune system and
promote its own natural healing mechanisms. This
effect helps speed healing and bring relief from
the symptoms of inflammation.

InflammEnz Speeds Healing!
|
| |
|
| |
Inflammation
is characterized by four signs: redness, pain,
swelling and heat. This process is caused
by any injury or damage to the tissues from
sources such as a viral or bacterial infection,
physical trauma or environmental toxins.
Typically associated with soft tissue damage
or degenerative processes, inflammation can
affect any organ or tissue throughout the
body. Long-term systemic inflammation can
eventually lead to life-threatening diseases.
|
|
|
| |
Numerous
clinical trials using proteolytic enzymes have
shown that these natural compounds help to reduce
inflammation wherever it occurs. One specific
macrophage known as an alpha-2-macroglobulin is
present in large numbers during inflammation.
Studies have shown that certain proteases, like
those found in InflammEnz, bind to these macroproteins,
shifting them to a more activated form, which
helps speed healing and repair of damaged tissue.
Positive
results have been demonstrated with everything
from acute soft tissue trauma to chronic inflammatory
conditions.
